Trendfor.me is an online platform that hosts many questions that users submit and others can voice their predictions about the topic. All questions are about something that could happen in the future (i.e. "Will there be a drought in Europe this year?"). Users can then predict what they feel will be the outcome and, depending on how confident they are about the subject, can submit a number of "stocks" to correlate with their submission. The more someone bids, the more stocks they could win if they turn out to be right. At a pre-determined time the author of the question will note which "side" turned out to be correct. If their determination goes unchallenged the winning side will win their share of the stocks back plus the stocks of the losing side. Trendfor.me mentions that users can take their winning stocks and get prizes or even cash in exchange.Show more screenshots »
Trendfor.me launched the beta version of its site on September 4, 2011. On November 20, 2011 they launched their Facebook app. There isn't much more information available about this operation online.
The idea of betting on future occurrences and using a virtual currency is a bit unique. However, the execution of this site leaves a lot to be desired for. Read on to see some of the issues encountered.
The site's initial appearance seems very plain and simple. However, upon exploring the site and its content it gives the impression that Trendfor.me is translated from another language, since there were many sentences on the Trendfor.me site that didn't make much sense. This made it particularly difficult to fully understand the concept of this site. Additionally, once a user is logged in, some of the pages had improper linking or stated that one wasn't authorized to view it. Overall, the user experience was frustrating. This is either due to the fact that the site is poorly translated into English or it's just not professionally setup.
To register for a new account on Trendfor.me, users need to provide a username, email address, email address and accept the Terms of Service provided on the site. New users will receive a confirmation email and a temporary password in order to setup their account.
It is free to register for Trendfor.me. It appears that users could purchase additional stocks in order to wager some hefty bets. However, when this reviewer tried to do so, they received a message that they were not authorized even though they were signed in. Unfortunately, accurate pricing information could not be provided. Perhaps Trendfor.me will fix this issue and post an understandable pricing page for their users to view.
Trendfor.me is an example of a site with an OK idea and horrible execution. It's possible this site is a hit in other languages, however its English version is unbearable. As such, its difficult to recommend this application to anyone.
